Hadrians Wall and Beamish

Decided to have a look at some attractions in the north east of England, an area I had worked in but had never spent any time looking at whats on offer. Its a very interesting part of the country, with Hadrian's wall and all things Roman featuring greatly. The first pictures are from the excavated site at Housesteads which involves a climb up a pathway on the side of a hill. Apparently this is the best example of a Roman fort anywhere in Britain. I also visited Vindolanda and Arbeia in South Shields.

The visit to Beamish was a great day out, this is a working museum which involves the staff and workers dressing and working in period costumes. They are extremely knowledgeable and helpful.

The Scribblers Picnic

The Scribblers Picnic is a charity event held every year at Stirling rugby club, it raises thousands of pounds for charities which include Marie Curie cancer care, CHAS, Strathcarron Hospice, MacMillan cancer support and Maggies. Its a very well run event which features various musicians who give their time in aid of all the afore mentioned charities. There is a main stage and a tent with quite an impressive line up of acts, ranging from ceilidh bands to soul. Each act does a 25 minute set and the whole thing is done in a very efficient manner. Two acts really caught my attention, Double Trouble-two 9 year old boys holding guitars larger than the are singing Oasis songs-brilliant and Bury The Hobbit-What a range of music that band does and great with it.
